My Favourite Antiques Page.

These are some of my favourite antiques. They're really only my favourites because they are readily on view and I can see them almost whenever I want. Most are owned by relatives, friends or neighbours from the local village, and some come from museums or estate houses in our area.

I am extremely grateful for being allowed to photograph these items and study them closely. One of the best ways to appreciate antiques is to learn as much as you can about them. This is detailed in the article I wrote My Top Ten Golden Rules for Buying and Collecting Antiques, which can be found here.

Research can often involve quite a lot of work if you are really in the dark to start with, and consumes in large quantities one of the very things we all seem to have precious little of; time.
Speaking of time, or more accurately, measurement of the passage of time, clocks are one of my own favourite interests, which is why you will see more pictures of them here than other antiques. Still, over time, I will add more pages to this section, and hopefully include more of what you may be interested in.

I'm happy to include pages that detail Your Favourite Antiques if you'd like to with your ideas. Here at Antique Collector we are committed to meeting the needs of the antique collecting community and helping you to find the very best specialist antique sites from around the UK

A mantle clock with marble pillars.
A mantle clock with the movement raised on marble pillars. The layout suggests it was probably part of a garniture once.
Another painting of flowers.
What draws me to these types of paintings is the detail in each petal and leaf. Signed M Tain. Again, please if you have more information. Thanks.

Royal Doulton Vase.
Based on the marks, "Slaters Patent", "Lambeth England", the pattern number and a signature which appears to be Joan Honey, these beautiful Doulton vases seem to be from around c.1895.
A pair of spelter statues.
A pair of weighted spelter figures, one male, one female, riding on an eagle, on hardwood pedestal entitled "Night" and "Day". Very detailed and dynamic!
Cruet Set.
A victorian silver plated seven bottle cruet set.

Postman Pat and Jess.
Strictly speaking of course, Postman Pat is not an antique just yet. However, this sort of high quality item, bought for a child to look after, will appreciate in value as they grow older.
Two Pair of Doulton Vases.
Two pairs of Royal Doulton Vases. The rear pair are by Emily Partington and date from about c.1902. The front pair are by Bessie Newbury and date from c.1903.
