Carpet weaving is among the oldest domestic crafts documented in history.
The fascination for collecting oriental rugs has waxed and waned over the centuries, but anything oriental will always be regarded with interest and are eagarly collected today.

One of the most amazing things about rugs and carpets, besides the fact that they can be works of art, is the knot count, 50 thousand up to a million knots per square metre. These, where not made in commercial town and city based workshops in Persia, for example, were likely made by nomadic tribal people or small village communities on small easily transported looms.

The major rug producing countries that are of most interest to antique rug collectors are, Turkey, Persia, Caucasus, Turkestan, India and China.
